How can I take part?
In the lead up to the Eurovision Song Contest, national selections take place in the represented countries. These national selections are being organized by the respective national public broadcasters who are Active Members of the European Broadcasting Union (EBU). In the United Kingdom, the BBC is taking care of the national selection, in Sweden it's SVT, in Germany it's NDR, etc.
Good to know •First of all, it is important to know that the EBU is not involved in the national selections. It is entirely up to the participating broadcasters to decide how they pick their entry. However, the EBU does demand full transparency on the chosen procedure •In most countries, televised national selections take place, and usually anyone can send in songs. A selection committee then picks the songs that will take part in the national selection, and a jury or viewers (or a mix of both) decide upon the winner •Some broadcasters pick their entry for the Eurovision Song Contest internally. A selection committee then picks the representing artists, and sometimes also the song to be performed
Sending in your song
To take part in the Eurovision Song Contest, you need to win a national selection, or be selected by one of the participating broadcasters. •Keep an eye on announcements made by your national public broadcaster. Usually, these announcements are made available through their website, and include details on how to send in your song •Note that not all broadcasters accept songs from foreigh artists, song writers and composers •If there is no public broadcaster in your country taking part in the Eurovision Song Contest, it is not possible to represent your country. To take part in the Eurovision Song Contest, you would have to enter your song for nomination in another country. Should you be selected to take part in the Eurovision Song Contest, you will then of course represent the respective country
Note that most broadcasters set their deadlines to submit songs somewhere between September and December.
If you sent in your song, the respective public broadcaster will inform you whether you have been selected for the national final, or not. From there, everything speaks for itself; you will have to win the national selection to represent the respective country at the Eurovision Song Contest.
How do national selections work?
The national selections for the Eurovision Song Contest are being organised by the participating national public broadcasters.
Traditionally, in March, participating broadcasters have to come up with their entry for the upcoming Eurovision Song Contest.
The EBU, main organiser of the Eurovision Song Contest, is not involved with the national selections. The EBU only requires the national selections to be fair and transparent.
When?
The national selections start already very soon after the previous Eurovision Song Contest. To get a full overview and put the dates down in your calendar, see the timetable in our calendar!
Format The preliminary dates were announced at the Head of Delegations meeting, held on 16 March 2015 in Vienna. The semi-finals being on 10 and 12 May 2016, and the final on 14 May 2016. These were subject to change depending on SVT, but were later confirmed during the announcement of the chosen host city. Discussions between the EBU and the Asia-Pacific Broadcasting Union (ABU) were held in 2014, regarding the inclusion of performer from the ABU TV Song Festival as a guest star at the Eurovision Song Contest. In July 2015, the EBU confirmed that they are looking into the possibility of the proposal that was discussed at the ABU General Assembly meeting in 2014.
SVT has also been in discussions surrounding moving the start time of the event up an hour from 21:00 CET to 20:00 CET; SVT staff believed that such a change would help to promote family viewing of Eurovision, as the broadcast would not run as late into the night—especially in Eastern Europe.
Presenters On the night of Sweden's win, Måns Zelmerlöw announced his interest in being one of the hosts of the 2016 contest. Zelmerlöw's previous TV hosting experiences include Melodifestivalen 2010, and the Swedish sing-along show Allsång på Skansen.[20] On 25 May, Christer Björkman told Expressen newspaper that Gina Dirawi, Petra Mede, and Sanna Nielsen were also potential choices as hosts. On 1 June, Expressen revealed that SVT was considering actor Dolph Lundgren and Zelmerlöw as co-hosts. On 1 August Nielsen said she would love to host if SVT asks her. Expressen revealed on 19 August that Mede and Zelmerlöw were SVT's first choice of hosts for the contest.
Provisional list of participants The following countries have expressed their provisional interest in participating in the 2016 contest (the official list of participants is expected to be publicised by the EBU towards the end of 2015). It has been estimated by the EBU that there could be at least forty countries competing at the 2016 contest; with the deadline to submit their participation applications by 15 September 2015. All applicants will have until 10 October 2015 to decide whether to change their minds without facing a financial fee.
Location Sveriges Television (SVT) announced on 24 May that their first choice as host arena for the Eurovision was the Tele2 Arena in Stockholm. However other cities and arenas were still able to apply. After Sweden's win in Vienna, those making a bid had approximately three weeks to submit their offer to SVT. An announcement from the broadcaster regarding the venue was expected by mid summer. The Ericsson Globe in Stockholm, which has a capacity of approximately 16,000 attendees, was announced as the host venue on 8 July 2015. This will be the Globe's second hosting of the contest as the arena was also used for the 2000 contest.
Bidding phase SVT announced the conditions under which cities and venues had announced their interest in hosting the 2016 contest: • The host city had to provide a certain number of hotels and hotel rooms to be found in the vicinity of the stadium. • The arena had to be able to offer lodges adjacent to the stadium. • A press centre had to be available at the stadium that will have a specific size. • SVT had to have access to the host venue at least 4–6 weeks before the broadcasts, in order to build the stage, rigging lights and all the technology. • The host city had to be close to a major airport. Key Host venue City Venue Capacity Notes Gothenburg Scandinavium 14,000 Venue of the Eurovision Song Contest 1985. Ullevi Stadium 75,000 Proposal was dependent on the construction of a roof to cover Ullevi Stadium. The idea was rejected due to costs.
Linköping Saab Arena 11,500 —
Malmö Malmö Arena 15,500 Venue of the Eurovision Song Contest 2013. Withdrew its bid on 11 June 2015, citing unavailability during the rehearsal weeks of the contest.
Örnsköldsvik Fjällräven Center 9,800 —
Sandviken and Gävle Göransson Arena 10,000 If this option had been chosen, Sandviken would have hosted the main three shows in the Göransson Arena with Gävle hosting the other smaller concerts and shows.
Stockholm Annexet 4,000 —
Ericsson Globe 16,000 Venue for the Eurovision Song Contest 2000 and the Melodifestivalen finals between 2002 and 2012.
Hovet 9,000 —
Friends Arena 65,000 Friends Arena is the biggest football stadium, and indoor venue, in Sweden and in the Nordic countries. Venue of the 2013, 2014 and 2015 Melodifestivalen finals. However, it was reported that Friends Arena was not part of Stockholm's bid.
Tele2 Arena 45,000 According to media reports, shortly after the Eurovision Song Contest 2015, Tele2 Arena was SVT's first choice of venue. It would not be possible to use the arena for Eurovision because of the 4–6 weeks organisation requirement, something which could not be fulfilled due to the pre-scheduled home games of Hammarby Football team.

Other countries For a country to be eligible for potential participation in the Eurovision Song Contest, it needs to have a broadcaster that has an active EBU membership, which will be able to broadcast the contest via the Eurovision network. The EBU issue invitations to participate in the 2016 contest to all 56 active members.[74] Several countries have already announced their provisional participation. The following countries have, thus far, announced their plans for 2016:
Active EBU members • Albania — On 9 August 2015, the Albanian broadcaster Radio Televizioni Shqiptar (RTSH), publicised an invitation for submissions for the 54th Festivali i Këngës. The show has been used as the selection process for Albania's entries during their Eurovision history. However, the broadcaster has yet to confirm their participation in Stockholm; therefore, it is unknown whether or not this selection event will be the means for determining a representative. • Andorra — The Andorran broadcaster Ràdio i Televisió d'Andorra (RTVA) confirmed that Andorra would not return to the contest in 2016. • Croatia — The Croatian Radiotelevision (HRT) has suggested that Croatia could return in 2016 and send the winner of The Voice – Najljepši glas Hrvatske, Nina Kraljić, as their entrant. The former Eurovision winner Emilija Kokić, who represented Yugoslavia as part of the band Riva in 1989, stated in an interview that she hoped to see Croatia back in Eurovision. • Luxembourg — RTL Télé Lëtzebuerg (RTL) confirmed on 4 June 2015 that Luxembourg would not be returning to the contest in 2016. • Monaco — The Monegasque broadcaster Télé Monte Carlo (TMC) confirmed that Monaco would not return to the contest in 2016. • Portugal — The Portuguese broadcaster, Rádio e Televisão de Portugal (RTP), are encouraging their followers to suggest changes for their national selection, assuming they choose to participate in the 2016 contest. The Portuguese have failed to qualify for the grand final since 2010, and the majority of the Portuguese public are under the impression that it is because of the country's current selection format, Festival da Canção. Cristiano Ronaldo's sister, Kátia Aveiro, has launched a Twitter campaign asking fans to back her bid to represent Portugal. • Slovakia — Radio and Television Slovakia (RTVS) returned the Eurovision Young Dancers 2015, and the decision for Slovakia to come back to the contest has been explained by the broadcaster as supporting domestic production and promoting national culture at a European level. However, no decision has been made regarding their 2016 participation. Later, on 26 August 2015, it was announced that Radio and Television Slovakia (RTVS) have yet to rule out participation in Eurovision 2016.
Turkey — Despite some information announcing a Turkish return to the contest, on 2 October, the EBU announced that the Turkish broadcaster, Turkish Radio and Television Corporation (TRT), had yet to decide on its participation. However, on 3 November 2015 TRT has announced that they will not participate in 2016. The reason being that their requests haven’t been taken into consideration effectively and the EBU hasn’t changed anything yet. Associate EBU members • Australia — The Special Broadcasting Service (SBS) has confirmed its interest in participating after being invited as a one-time guest to compete at the 2015 contest. Jon Ola Sand and the EBU stated in February 2015 that Australia can only return if they win the 2015 contest and choose to jointly host the 2016 contest with a European country. It was revealed in May 2015 that Australia might become a permanent participant following some reports by Sand to the Swedish broadcaster. SBS has said they are involved in more lobbying for future participation, but a formal decision on whether they will compete in 2016 or if they will withdraw has not been announced yet.
Require EBU membership • China — Chinese provincial television channel Hunan Television confirmed its interest in participating in the Eurovision Song Contest. The EBU responded saying "we are open and are always looking for new elements in each Eurovision Song Contest" However, on 3 June 2015, the EBU denied that China would participate as a guest or full participant in 2016. • Faroe Islands — The Faroese publication Portal reported on 9 June 2015 that the local broadcaster, Kringvarp Føroya (KVF), had explored Eurovision participation in 2010, by applying for active EBU membership, but it was rejected due to the islands being part of the Danish Realm. The education minister of the islands, Bjørn Kalsø, supported participation, saying, "the justification so far has been that the countries have to be acknowledged by the United Nations as independent in order to participate. But there is no doubt that we could easily overstep those barriers, if we’re absolutely determined to reach this goal ... it is completely up to Kringvarpið ... to renew the application regularly, and show the EBU that the Faroe Islands are an equal match to other countries when it comes to participation in the Eurovision Song Contest." • Kosovo — The Foreign Minister of Kosovo tweeted that his country (not recognised by fifteen states in Europe and still not an active member of the EBU) will participate in the 2016 Eurovision Song Contest, making its début. The tweet said that the foreign minister is confirming participation but cannot say how. However, on 3 June 2015, the EBU denied that Kosovo would compete in 2016, as the national broadcaster, Radio Television of Kosovo (RTK), has neither an associate nor active membership. • Liechtenstein — The first national television broadcaster of Liechtenstein, 1 Fürstentum Liechtenstein Television (1FLTV), confirmed that the nation will not be able to make its début in Stockholm, due to lack of funds to join the EBU.

This is the arena where the SVT want to organize EurovisionHere are the arenas, fighting on next year's Eurovision. SVT has not contacted Gothenburg or Malmö - but should have had informal discussions with Stockholm. Meanwhile stated Malmo decline the event. - I've heard the talk, says Olle Zetterberg in Stockholm Business Region, which holds the city's meetings with SVT. According to Expressen tasks like winning the Eurovision delegation organize on Tele 2 Arena in Stockholm. Stadskampen is running.Barely a day after Måns Zelmerlöws landslide victory in Vienna in the night's work to sell in the next Eurovision Arena in full swing. As early as one to two months ago took SVT the first informal contacts with the cities. But from Stockholm holding the work has been going on since the snuvades the mission of Malmö in 2013. Already on Tuesday held meetings where Tele 2 Arena Friends Arena, Stockholm Globe Arena and Stockholm International Fairs to be hammering out the plan to sell the concept to SVT. You should also determine which venue is the main candidate. The group expects that the event is held one of the last two weeks in May next year. - We have had informal conversations with SVT to check the interest. All venues and the city had to have a little hit and go through the situation, what can be done at the different plants and how the schedule looks like. Then we turn us down with SVT and discuss. We did a pretty thorough job last time, and still have all the documentation and will freshen up and make use of it when we meet SVT, says Olle Zetterberg in Stockholm Business Region, holding town meetings with SVT. "Talked about it in the business" Meanwhile stated Malmö have jumped Eurovision race. The reason should be in accordance with Expressen's tasks to the arrangement in 2013 became too expensive. The industry is talking warmly about Malmö's defection. Olle Zetterberg has heard the information. - They did a great solution in 2013. But I have heard the talking. They talk about it in the business, he says. SVT would not comment on Malmö's defection. At the same time do not want to Malmö's tourist director say whether the city would accept the Eurovision. - There is nothing I dare to say anything about now. But in my heart I know we played a good and good arrangement at the latest, says tourism director Johan Hermansson. According to him, Malmö has not been contacted by SVT regarding arranging the event. He does not recognize that the city should have declined. - It's more than I know. And after the analysis did not show that it would have cost too much money last or come in for a bit, says Johan Hermansson. In Gothenburg's Scandinavium Arena is the only stadium that can come in numbers to arrange the Eurovision. But the city has not yet been contacted by SVT. - We will make contact with SVT. It is early to talk about a plan, but it will not end up in Malmö. It's Gothenburg and Stockholm are the candidates, says Stefan Gadd, press manager at Göteborg & Co. In Stockholm, the noises in the positive. According to Expressen informant has the winning delegation has already made his choice. They want to hold the Eurovision in Tele 2 Arena, Although the city is aiming to hold out on selling the Tele 2 Arena. - I think that Stockholm will have next year on the Tele2 Arena. It is obvious that Stockholm will have it, it is the capital after all, says Eva-Louise Erlandsson, S. municipal council chairman. Why Tele2? - It is our great stadium, the largest. It is located in Stockholm, Even the finance commissioner wants to keep the Eurovision on Tele 2 Arena. - It is clear that I will strike a blow for it to become the Tele2 Arena. For it is our own stadium. But the most important thing is that it ends up in Stockholm, says Karin Wanngård, S. SVT is man of few words about the election. Clearly, you want to get started discussions as soon as possible. - There should be a high tempo. We have just soundings. We've called some different people and some different cities. But I do not want to comment on what in a long time, says the channel's entertainment boss Thomas Hall. www.expressen.se/noje/har-ar-arenan-dar-svt-vill-anordna-eurovision/ +++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ Bjorkman promise inexpensive Eurovison 2016Kulturnyheterna hits Christer Björkman day after the grand final in Vienna. Now wait an intense time for schlager general who promises an even better - and cheaper tickets than in Malmö in 2013. He is the Swedish Head of Delegation and has been involved right from the start down in Vienna. Bjorkman has always been seen near Måns Zelmerlöws side and is perhaps the following Zelmerlöw who can enjoy the most to gain. Now he namely stage the competition for the second time when Sweden takes over the hosting 2016. Like the main character was Bjorkman long unsure whether it really could go all the way. - I was terribly scared of Italy! To start last as they did with such a song that was so incredibly bombastic, yes that I thought would be difficult. But Måns is so powerful as an artist and also so clear, so that's what did it. And so it is a devilishly good song, says Christer Björkman in the bus on the way to the airport. "Unbelievable, incomprehensible, wonderful, wonderful" After a long night, he will soon land on Swedish soil. Have profit had time to sink in yet? - No, not really, this is inconceivable, incomprehensible, wonderful, fantastic. As a TV producer dream about doing Eurovision once, and now three years later we get to do it again. - The advantage of this is that we have very much knowledge is fresh. We will be more efficient, more cost effective indeed, and hopefully not so burdened by the seriousness of the moment. But that we should actually be able to enjoy it and make it even better. Sweden's costs for organizing the event in 2013 landed at SEK 125 million, a low figure in Eurovisonsammanhang, but Bjorkman therefore believe that it should be possible to make it even cheaper in 2016. - We were good back then but I believe we will be able to save a lot of energy and money by taking us to the knowledge we now have. The struggle between the cities can begin It remains to be seen in the Swedish city contest will be held. When Malmö became the host city, there were many who thought it was odd that they did not use any of Sweden's miljardsatsningar: Tele2 Arena and Friends Arena in Stockholm. As it appears on Bjorkman it is now up to the cities to show which heart burning strongest schlager. - I want to see it in a city that really want us. That was what was key in Malmö, the whole city wanted us to be there. The colored actually experience that the delegates received, which they are still talking about, it was very hot in there and close. Arranges both Mello and Eurovision Now wait a least intense time for schlager general who will arrange both Melodifestivalen and Eurovision next year. He said during yesterday's press conference that the planning has already started. - We'll see how it got in Austria and take us out of it. And look at how we did ourselves? What image we gave then by Sweden? Because we want to give a different this time. Can this continue every three years? Keeps it real? - No, I do not think so ... Or Oh, Ireland won the three consecutive years in the 90's so it is well understood that we can! www.svt.se/kultur/musik/bjorkman-fruktansvart-radd-for-italien

Stadskampen running on Eurovision
"Hope that Eurovision will return to Stockholm"
Get the capital back to the competition next year, the Malmö repeat the success from 2013 or it is Gothenburg's turn this time?
The tug of war between Sweden's largest venue cities has begun.
And in Solna starts hotel rooms run out.
Confetti has barely swept up from the floor in the Wiener Stadthalle, but in Sweden, the battle for the city to take over the hosting already begun.
Stockholm, who saw himself pinched in the event of upstart Malmo in 2013, hoping for revenge.
- We have the stadiums, infrastructure and hotel rooms. Moreover, it is a beautiful capital city to showcase and we are accustomed to managing large events, says Tomas Per Lund, president of the Friends Arena.
The hotel is already fully
- We obviously hope that Eurovision will come back to Stockholm. It is a great event that has 200 million viewers and it is a wonderful opportunity to promote Stockholm, but so far there is nothing to speculate, continues Tomas Per Lund.
At the same time seems someone do just that. First Hotel in Solna, located near Friends Arena, the Eurovision Week 2016 are already fully booked.
"Historical highlight"
Malmo hailed worldwide for its events in 2013, but at present it is uncertain if they get the opportunity to repeat the success.
- So far we have not received any invitation from SVT, but we get it, we will, together with the City of Malmö sit down and discuss this, says Karin Mårtensson, managing director of Malmö Arena.
- Eurovision 2013 is one of the absolute highlights of Malmö Arena history and it's all about more than just the stadium, we are a part of a destination, she says.
Gothenburg is ready to start
In Gothenburg, began the preparations already when it was clear that Måns Zelmerlöw was one of this year's favorites, says Lotta Nibell, president doing Got Event, the company that manages Gothenburg's major venues.
- We have, of course, peeked at it before. We are always ready to start, and a step ahead. We have a long history of using events as a part of the city's development and we will come up with a good competitive proposal. We prefer a Eurovision at Scandinavium, she says.

SVT is the profit a real feather in our cap.
- I'm incredibly happy and proud, both of men's, song, songwriters, the entire team and SVT. It was truly world class at what we saw, says SVT's president Hanna Stjärne.
It was a real nail-biter and a while pulled Russia from Sweden.

"Has a lot of experience"
As late as 2013 arranged SVT Eurovision Song Contest in Malmö and according Hanna Stjärne channel is well prepared for next year.
- We are quite well equipped precisely because it was not so long ago. We have much experience and many talented people who were with the last time. We also have people on site in Vienna checked the arrangement. Tonight, we celebrate and then we'll roll up our sleeves and start working.
In which city Eurovision Song Contest will be held in 2016 know Hanna Stjärne not yet.
- What we know is that we will offer a magical musical show and it will be very exciting to welcome all of Europe. All the attention will be directed towards Sweden.
How will you celebrate?
- I have celebrated with good friends. It was incredibly nervous there for a while but we have celebrated considerably now that everything became clear. Now I celebrate by talking to the media about how we should organize the next celebration.

The industry is talking warmly about Malmö's defection. Olle Zetterberg has heard the information. - They did a great solution in 2013. But I have heard the talking. They talk about it in the business, he says. SVT would not comment on Malmö's defection. "Should be fast-paced" But it is clear that it wants to relaunch the discussions as soon as possible. - There should be a high tempo. We have just soundings. We've called some different people and some different cities. But I do not want to comment on what in a long time, says the channel's entertainment boss Thomas Hall. At the same time, SVT has already started filing on the choice of host. Names like gina dirawi, Petra Mede and Sanna Nielsen looks Christer Björkman as "good name". But also keep Mans Zelmerlöw as a candidate. Mans itself is clearly eager. - Of course I would. I would be extremely honored if I was asked. It would be very difficult to say no. You get only one chance. - It had been svinkul so clear and it feels like a true natural thing. But it's a question that SVT must set first. Have they done it? - No. Have you told them that you are hungry? - Christer was sitting next to me at the press conference, so I think he is aware of it, he says and laughs. Christer Björkman open to take back several favorites. - Gina has said she wants to lead the Eurovision next year, Måns is now saying that he is hungry. Sanna is a big favorite of the Eurovision Song Contest. One can do from Austria and have any number but do not say anything. No, but we are actually very many good candidates and it is great fun. It's funny that they show that they are interested as well. All the names you have mentioned are skilled hostess. When we sat down and formed idea about what we want to do it this time, then it will be pretty obvious whom it is best suited for. Will Petra Mede become relevant again? - Petra will surely be on any corner in any way. But there are many good names. But it is far too early to say anything about it. There I will know by the end of the summer first. We will sit all summer now and brainstorm, he says. At the Stockholm Business Region expects that the event is held one of the last two weeks in May next year

Vienna, last year's host city, will also formally hand over the Host City Insignia to its successor Stockholm. She hosted one of the Swedish national selection semi-finals in the same year. CEO: "Now the direct planning of the next Eurovision"
He made it! Mans Zelmerlöw and Sweden won the Eurovision Song Contest 2015 with "Heroes".
- I'm so fantastically happy! It is a dream that has come true. This is the funniest thing I have done, says Måns Zelmerlöw.
The Head of Delegation Christer Bjorkman is also more than satisfied.
- This is a historic moment - it is the second time within three years as Sweden wins. We are now the only company to have won the race six times, only Ireland jacket's there with his seven victories.
President Hanna Stjärne look forward to organizing the Eurovision Song Contest in 2016.
- Congratulations Mans Zelmerlöw - you are not only Sweden's hero but the whole of Europe. I am so happy and proud of SVT and everyone involved who has demonstrated world class, both musically and television-wise. Now begins directly planning the next Eurovision. It becomes a cherished trouble to invite all of Europe on a magical musical show in Sweden in 2016, says Hanna Stjärne.

Martin Österdahl, executive producer of the Eurovision Song Contest in Malmö in 2013, has in recent weeks been working to lay the foundations for a possible new ESC in Sweden in the event of victory in this year's competition.
The mission comes from Thomas Hall, program manager for entertainment on SVT in Stockholm.
After Måns Zelmerlöws victory in Vienna on Saturday intensified now that work.
- The next time, Martin to prepare decisions for selecting the host city and also to bring the ESC 2016 project management team, says Thomas Hall.

Cities and the stadiums will now present its proposals on the arrangement of the Eurovision Song Contest 2016. On SVT editorial staff progress while the process to appoint a so-called core team with those responsible for the different parts of the project. And designing the stage for next year's competition.
Bidding between cities
Christer Bjorkman, Sweden's head of delegation in Vienna, was show producer last Eurovision Song Contest held in Sweden. Even now, he has a clear picture of the process for next year's contest.
- There will be an auction, and the process has already started. Since we were favorites, we had to say to the towns that, if we win, be prepared to be approached by us the week after and then have anchored an application at all levels, he says.
Now he believes that SVT will be able to tell which city organizes the contest in the middle of summer.
- Now that we have won, we will call you back and tell us all what we need. Since cities have three weeks to come up with a proposal. After they present their proposals, and then we will evaluate and make a decision, he says.
Rice and rose to Austria
Delegation's summary of their stay in Vienna goes as expected in the major.
- We have had Askul and a fantastic team spirit. And we've had three totally amazing Delegation hosts who have lived up to more than all expectations, says Christer Björkman.
But all has not been positive. Regarding broadcaster ORF has HoD both praise and criticism.
- Organization-wise, ORF been incredible talented. Everything has worked and has helped us to get through what we want, so I can not say we had any problems at all.
- Since I have very many views on the programs themselves. Where I think the performance is substandard, it did not feel like a modern television broadcasting. But the path, it may not go a day like this.
Already focused on the task
Now is Christer Björkman in the same situation as three years ago. When Sweden had just won the Eurovision Song Contest 2012 in Baku. But this time he sees the situation differently.
- There is a huge difference. Then it was such a relief after the five years of earnings darkness that we had just before had been through. I am so clearly as-happy now, but there is a finding, and go quickly into action. I've already moved the focus from the victory to the next job in a rather simple way.
- Last time when I was the day after in Baku, I had no idea what we would do. I thought probably still Eurovision was just a bigger Eurovision Song Contest. There is something else entirely.
Top name already engaged
A top names from last in the days are already engaged. Martin Österdahl, executive producer of Eurovision Song Contest 2013 in Malmö, has in recent weeks been working to lay the foundations for a possible new Eurovision in Sweden in the event of victory in the competition, reports SVT We on television.

2016 Eurovision Song Contest: What's next?
Preparing and planning the next contest starts early
Geneva, Switzerland - Two days ago, Sweden won the 2015 Eurovision Song Contest with Måns Zelmerlöw and the song Heroes. Now the preparations for the 2016 Eurovision Song Contest are about to start. Here is a brief overview of the next steps to be taken by the European Broadcasting Union, the Eurovision Song Contest Reference Group, and 2016 Host Broadcaster SVT.
First information on the 2016 Eurovision Song Contest has already been released even ahead of Saturday's Grand Final. Preliminary dates have been set - 10th and 12th of May for the two Semi-Finals, and 14th of May for the Final.
Host broadcaster gets ready
On the winner's press conference in Vienna, Christer Björkman, on behalf of Swedish public broadcaster SVT, has already announced that first internal talks about hosting the 2016 Eurovision Song Contest had already been held, and more information was due tomorrow.
The steps that follow are usually the appointment of a "core team" - including the executive producer and the creative director - that is in charge of the organisation of the upcoming contest, and possibly the opening of a bidding process for the host city of the 2016 Eurovision Song Contest.
Reference Group approves
In June, a meeting between the host broadcaster and the Eurovision Song Contest Reference Group takes place, where the organisational setup and timeline of preparations are agreed on and the Host Broadcaster gets a first briefing.
After that, the host broadcaster starts working on more detailed aspects of the event, for example the artistic concept, stage design, theme art, which are being revealed in the months to come after being approved by the Reference Group.
List of represented countries
Usually the list of countries participating in the upcoming Eurovision Song Contest will be released late the year before or early on the year of the contest on Eurovision.tv. So, you can expect this to happen either late this year or early 2016.
Tickets usually go on sale late this year or early next year too. The procedure and the official ticketing partner website will be announced on Eurovision.tv as well.
National selections kick off
In some countries, like Switzerland, national selections start as early as September, and first entries in the 2016 Eurovision Song Contest are likely known already before the end of the year. Countries have until mid-March to select their songs, when they are officially presented at the Head of Delegation Meeting.
You can follow the news and watch many national selection finals live on Eurovision.tv. So there are good reasons to check our website and follow our official Twitter in the months to come!

How can the stage be in the Swedish Eurovision Song Contest 2016 Even now start the process of creating the stage for the Eurovision Festival in Sweden next year. The reason is a big mistake by not later than the time.
Right now preparing all interested cities to applications for organizing the Eurovision Song Contest 2016. While SVT has begun to develop the scene to be used in the competition - even though you do not know what venue it will be.
The reason is one of the biggest mistakes of the event in Malmö in 2013. Christer Björkman already mentioned in the international press conference on Saturday night that Sweden will be able to avoid the mistakes from the last.
"Save a lot of anxiety"
For svt.se/melodifestivalen develops the head of delegation.
- I mean work until shipment. We have recent experience and will be able to avoid some traps. Now we know the order in which we do things and what is critical to not end up in lack of time, he says.
- Such a thing is to get started with the production design work now. In this way we will save incredibly much power and money and thus actually save a lot of anxiety.
Small budget
But it is not about developing a more lavish stage than in Malmö. Eurovision Fans have later often pointed out that the scene was less than in including it in Denmark the following year.
- We do not have half a billion to spend on where this program, and we will not be able to do it this time either, says Christer Björkman.
- I think that the scene of Malmö was very functional and varied. To create something beautiful for half of the money that others use and still have it be beautiful is an art. There we will do again.
"So we do not work"
When Denmark arranged the Eurovision Song Contest 2014 ended with that far exceeded the budget. Several were dismissed after the competition for the costly mistakes.
It will not happen in Sweden in 2016, according to Christer Björkman.
- We will not have the money Denmark put on this, and we do not want people to be sacked because they go over budget. So do not work we.

ESC boss: Not applicable with "World Vision"Eurovision Song Contest should be extended to a singing competition for the world, says music journalist Robert Hoftun Gjestad. ESC Chief Jon Ola Sand, however, has no plans to expand the event in the foreseeable future. The time is ripe to expand the current Eurovision Song Contest a global music competition, Aftenposten wrote music journalist Robert Hoftun Gjestad in an editorial last week. The reason is that Australia, which is demonstrably not in Europe, participated in this year's final with Guy Sebastian's song "Tonight Again." - Maybe we should call it the "Eurovision", but "World Vision"? For there is no reason to restrict competition in today's global world, he says to NRK. - No queuing to joinESC-General Jon Ola Sand, however Gjestad dreams a shot across the bow. - It's not just nations in line to join the Eurovision, he says to NRK. According to Sand is Australia so far the only country outside the European Broadcasting Union EBU who have expressed a desire to participate. In addition, a South Korean broadcaster come with cautious soundings. TV viewers in New Zealand, Australia, Canada and China also had the opportunity to leave with the year's final on the fly. But the program is broadcast, is not in itself enough, warns Sand. - To participate in the ESC, you must have an audience of a certain size. It's not something you just participate. Sand says there are still many potential participant countries in the EBU area they want to catch before it may be necessary to expand the framework for competition. In addition, the size of the event put restrictions on how many countries can realistically be with, he warns. - ESC can not be much larger than we are today, because it will be virtually impossible for a host broadcaster to undertake the event, both practical and economical. Liquid limitsEurosong is, as the name suggests, is primarily a European tevling. The traditional threshing festival, however, has long operated with a slightly blurred definition of Europe. Israel, which is a longstanding ESC participant, is by definition in Asia, while repeat offenders Turkey and Azerbaijan have only a small foothold on the European continent. Also countries south of the Mediterranean is represented in the European Broadcasting Union: In 1980 participated Morocco for the first and last time, while the EBU members Egypt, Libya, Algeria and Tunisia have so far chosen to remain outside.

Why Eurovision needs to be saved from the BBC
It’s not cool to be snobbish about the world’s biggest talent contest – it just makes Britain look ridiculous
Britain is a stickler for tradition and each May we now observe a relatively new one: we bomb in the Eurovision Song Contest. The protocol now is well-established. Our entry is chosen by a BBC bureaucrat who appears to see the whole thing as a bad joke. We send out Bonnie Tyler/Engelbert Humperdinck etc to face an army of talent from countries who have studied the art of winning and take it very seriously indeed.
Electro Velvet (more on them here) can at least reassure themselves that they will not be Britain’s worst-ever entry. That honour goes to Jemini, a Liverpudlian duo who in 2003 made history by being given nul points by tout le monde. Since then, Britain has come to specialise in abject Eurovision failure, having finished last three times in the past decade. We’re guaranteed a place in the final, because of the sheer amount of money that the BBC pays to secure its Eurovision membership. Its actual presentation of Eurovision is pretty good; Graham Norton and Paddy O’Connell are great presenters. The problem lies in its selecting our entry without any competition. It’s no coincidence that our entries range from the quotidian to the appalling. We don’t do badly because Britain is politically friendless, but because the music we enter is awful.
This would be understandable if Britain, as a country, struggled to export music. But we do so better than anyone. The BBC News summed up the irony rather well in a report straight after our 2015 humiliation:-
“Over the past five years, Britain has produced some of the biggest chart-topping acts on the planet from Adele to One Direction, Ed Sheeran, Sam Smith. But in nearly two decades, it has failed to produce a single winner of Eurovision.”
It would have been more accurate to say that the BBC has failed to produce a winner. This is nothing to do with a lack of national talent; Britain is an exporter of talent contests as well as talent. We are the country of The X Factor and of Simon Fuller, the man behind the Arab version of Eurovision. And yet we entrust Eurovision, the world’s biggest talent show, to the BBC, which projects it as a risible festival of high camp, a musical version of a bad-taste party.
In May 2013, a discussion was held at the Swedish Embassy in London about where Britain went so wrong. I had the honour of moderating the talks. The panel included Kevin Bishop, a BBC man who produced the Terry Wogan’s Eurovision evenings and Svante Stockselius, who rescued Sweden’s equivalent from similar ridicule ten years ago. The keynote speaker was Katrina Leskanich, the singer who with her backing group the Waves won for Britain in 1997 by the highest margin in Eurovision history. She put her success down to Jonathan King, the pop impresario who was perhaps the last person the BBC hired who knew how to win competitions. The corporation now seems -utterly lost.
Rather than defend the BBC, Mr Bishop confirmed our suspicions. The corporation is useless at entertainment, he said, and no longer has anyone in its hierarchy who understands it. This is a self-reinforcing problem, warned Mr Stockselius, because the BBC decides how Eurovision is presented in Britain. If it sends dreadful acts to compete, and then holds the entire contest up to ridicule, then our successful singers will not be seen dead on a Eurovision stage. Katrina wanted to know the name of whoever chooses the BBC’s Eurovision entries, ‘so we can slap him’.
The BBC is not the first to try to ask an anonymous bureaucrat to choose a song that is expected to be popular with the masses. This happened every year with Intervision, the Soviet equivalent of Eurovision, which ended in abysmal failure. The difference between the formats epitomised why the West won: ours was colourful, humorous, raucous, and even in the 1950s produced some of the most memorable popular tunes. While Soviet entrants were told to show ‘socialist dignity’, Eurovision was producing songs designed to be sung on the way back home from the pub (Exhibit A: ‘Volare’, Italy’s 1958 entry). Tito’s Yugoslavia banned radio stations from playing music that was ‘capitalist’ or ‘kitsch’.
The BBC evinces the same bureaucratic snobbery and lack of comprehension. When it did run a contest, the whole thing was a farce. But it need not be; there a thousand better ways to do it. As Katrina suggests, winning starts with the song rather than the singer — so the contest should begin with the writers. This happens in Sweden, which solicited 3,500 entries to find their winner this year. The aim is to write a song that works across 39 nations speaking 35 languages. It’s a fine art: if it wasn’t, the best songwriters would not be so rich.
While Terry Wogan resigned in protest at the block voting, he missed an important point: it’s true that the voting drips with politics, but the best Eurovision entries can game the system. The 1970 entry from Ireland was one by Dana, a Londonderry girl who sang about snowdrops and daffodils while her native Bogside was up in flames. The juxtaposition captured the imagination of a continent — as did her flight home. As she later put it,
‘This was the first time since the Troubles that a plane had flown from Dublin to British airspace in the North. It was a very important cross-border, cross-cultural event.’
If Eurovision was a night of inconsequential trash, then Iran would not have recalled its ambassador from Azerbaijan in protest at the tolerance the host Baku showed to gay fans. Vladimir Putin would not have hailed Dima Bilan’s win in 2008 as ‘a triumph for all of Russia’. And the Baku police would not have tracked down and questioned people who used their mobile phones to vote for Armenia, which is supposed to be Azerbaijan’s mortal enemy. Eurovision has become a place where hatchets are buried, or raspberries blown. The voting results are trawled over by academics. But no one can solve the mystery of Britain’s refusal to compete.
Britain does have talent — enough of it to win Eurovision every year if it chose. The contest may be derided by the BBC hierarchy, but is taken very seriously by the many countries who not so long ago had to vote in a Soviet system by switching the lights off and on in their houses and waiting for the authorities to judge an energy surge. They like and admire Britain, yet cannot work out why we don’t send our young talent to what has become the world’s most-watched non-sporting event. The answer is that it’s run by a bureaucracy as puzzled by popular culture as the old Intervision once was. Neither Sky not ITV suffer such problems. It is time for the BBC to let someone else find a song for Europe.
This is an updated version of a May 2013 article.

Christer Björkman can get new role for the Eurovision Song Contest 2016 Later he got stress symptoms and said he would not do it. Now Christer Björkman back as the organizer of the Eurovision Song Contest. But perhaps in a different role.
When Sweden hosted the Eurovision Song Contest 2013 was Christer Björkman role of show producer. At the same time, he was executive producer of the Eurovision Song Contest. The pressure was great and he got among other stress problems eczema.
"Sickening years"
If Sweden were to win again, he promised to work with the Eurovision Song Contest and not put so much effort on Eurovision.
But now the acclaimed producer changed.
- It is a bit like giving birth to children. When people do they say "never again". But the brain is so cleverly arranged that you forget after a while. I only remember the fun. I understand that there will be a sickening years back, but right now I do not feel that there is a problem, but it must go.
"Experience has disappeared"
The reason for Christer Bjorkman feel compelled to return as the organizer of the Eurovision Song Contest is simple.
- Martin Österdahl which was exektiv producer is not left on SVT. Christel Tholse Willers who was responsible for Malmo going to UR. Much experience has disappeared, and it gives me the feeling that I must have another role so that we can use my experience maximum in the project, he said.
Martin Österdahl works by Måns Zelmerlöws victory temporarily with the process to elect the host city.
Calling for new power
How the new role looks are not clear. SVT will take in the coming weeks until the so-called core team of managers responsible for different parts of the Eurovision Song Contest in 2016.
- I do not think my role will look exactly the same and actually have no idea. To use my experience in the best possible way, I might not be as deep on the level of detail in the program. We did so recently, and it's not just spit out a Eurovision to, so I think we want the new creative force.
Eurovision Song Contest broadcast preliminarily on 10, 12 to 14 May 2016. Representatives of TV companies in Turkey, Ukraine and Croatia have announced that countries could return to competition.

After Eurovision-flop: Now, Simon Cowell save Britain's honor
After another flop-ranking in this year's Eurovision finale, airing talent show judge Simon Cowell idea to head to find Britain's next Grand Prix representative.
We know him usually as the cool, measured and sometimes outright lead judge on talent programs like Britain's Got Talent, American Idol and British X Factor.
Now the British answer to Thomas Blachman - talent show judge and media mogul Simon Cowell - might help to find next year Eurovsion contribution to the UK ...
"Would love to take over the reins"
After the country's flop-location during the finale (the country ended up as number 24 out of 27 with just 5 points), Cowell has certainly raised the issue of taking over the country's Eurovision selection process:
- It is 100 percent certain that I would love to take over the reins to Eurovision. I have thought about it, says Cowell to British The Mirror, adding:
- The idea of acquiring it about a year and try to get someone - a blank page - to represent Great Britain; it would love!
Nothing to lose
And the charismatic judge has also figured the good. There will indeed be everything to gain if Cowell actually end up having to be in charge of the selection of Britain's next Eurovision contributions.
The last decade is the UK only ended up in the finale top 10 once. However, there is recovered last two seats and second-last in the same period.

Britain's Got Talent: And Simon Cowell wants to take us to victory in Eurovision
Simon Cowell knows better than anyone that Britain’s Got Talent – and now he wants to prove it to the rest of Europe and end our run of Eurovision flops.
As his search for the country’s best variety act ends in tonight’s BGT final, the music tycoon says he would love to knock our “nul points” habit on the head by choosing our song for Europe.
And after Eurovision was thrashed by BGT in the ratings last week, he clearly knows the magic ingredients that could help secure a UK win.
Cowell, 55, says: “One hundred per cent I’d love to take the reins for Eurovision. I have thought about it.
“The idea of taking it on for one year and trying to get someone to represent the UK, someone new – I’d love that.
“I don’t think there’d be too much to lose. I think it’d be great fun.”
This year’s UK entry, Still In Love With You by vocal duo Electro Velvet, finished fourth from bottom after winning just a handful of points.
Cowell says: “This year they really weren’t good, they didn’t stand a chance. The winner had a proper record, the staging was great.
“It’d be great to get involved. I’d love to do it. The only problem is the timing – I wouldn’t want it to compete with Britain’s Got Talent.”
His hopes for Europe don’t end there.
Chatting in his dressing room after Friday’s semi-final, he says he backs plans for a referendum on Britain’s membership of the European Union – though he likes the idea of “staying together”.
But he says: “I think it’s good for everyone to have a choice, that’s important – and of course in the end we’ll go with the majority.”
Cowell knows all about winning over the majority – and he reveals what he thinks the magic ingredients are that have made this year’s BGT such a winning series.
“There’s something about this series now that really reflects the mood of the country. It shouldn’t be too serious, or too politically correct,” he says.
Simon Cowell: He wants to take us to victory in Eurovision
“It makes you feel good, and that’s what I want the final to be about.”
He says he wants the prize to go to Calum Scott, who is his Golden Buzzer act – and admits singers Calum and Isaac Waddington offer him the most commercial opportunities.
“Obviously it’s good for me if a singer wins,” he says. “But as we’ve seen on this show before anything can happen.”
Joined for a celebratory drink by partner Lauren Silverman, 37, and fellow panellist Amanda Holden, 44, Simon says he would like next year’s 10th anniversary BGT special to be a “greatest hits” edition, featuring top acts from all the previous series.
And he hopes to keep the current panel – including David Walliams, 43, and Alesha Dixon, 36.
“This panel just works,” he says. “They really focus on the contestants, that’s what you want.”
But he is more guarded over the next series of X Factor, due to start later this year.
One place remains on that panel alongside himself, Cheryl Fernandez-Versini and Radio 1 star Nick Grimshaw, who is expected to sign up soon.
Of a fourth judge, he says only: “I think you’ll be really surprised by who it is. Once certain names came into the frame people began calling.”
The new series will have at least one new fan – Simon’s 15-month-old son Eric.
Showing a photo of the youngster at home watching his dad on screen earlier in the evening, Simon says: “Eric watches it every night. Every minute he’s transfixed.”
As Cowell is asked whether there are any plans for Baby No2, partner Lauren interrupts: “I think that’s a question for me!” prompting laughter from the music boss’s team.
Seems she’ll be the judge of that... www.mirror.co.uk/tv/tv-news/simon-cowell-knows-britains-talent-5794167

Now, the Faroes participate in Eurovision
Faroese applied already to be in Eurovision in 2010. After Australia's debut in this year's competition sees the islands now have a new option.
Eurovision 2015 featured a little outlandish debut as Australia - which is located on the other side of the world - for the first time participated in the world's largest music competition.
Their participation, Guy Sebastian, ended on a nice 5th place in the final, May 23 - including 8 points from Denmark.
The debut may have paved the way for several new Grand Prix States? In any case, the Faroe Islands now be in Eurovision! It writes The fan Wiwibloggs.
Application rejected
According Wiwibloggs writes the Faroese news site Portal at least, to the Faroe Islands in 2010 submitted an application to the European television union, EBU, expressed islands formal interest in participating.
EBU, which must approve the participating countries in Eurovision, refused the application on the grounds that the Faroe Islands is not an independent nation, which must be enabled to participate in the Grand Prix.
Hoping for a Faroese Eurovision debut is far from dead!
- So far, it justified the rejection of that potential participating countries should be recognized as independent nations of the UN to participate. There is no doubt that we can easily overcome the barrier if we are determined to achieve the goal (to participate in Eurovision, ed.), Says Education Minister Bjorn Kalsø (Unity Party) to the site.
Kalsø stresses, however, that it is up to the local TV station Kringvarpið that continue to renew the Faroese application to the EBU as television union can view the islands' continuing interest.
Faroe Islands are great for music
The Faroese interest in participating in the Eurovision may be because the islands are actually quite adept in the art of doing well in music competitions.
In 2009, won the Faroese Linda Andrews at least the Danish version of X Factor, and also in 2012 and 2015 slipped Faroese Sveinur and Jógvan with the top 3 as the Danish X Factor finals would be decided.
The popular artist Teitur also comes from the Faroe Islands, which, despite a population of just 50,000, that seems to bid with plenty of talent, if one day they will be allowed to participate in the Eurovision Song Contest.
