cop29 Announced Today Your PC Will Automatically Download Windows 10 This Week A lot of PC users are going to see Windows 10 suddenly appear on their machines this week.
Windows 10 has been changed to a ‘recommended’ upgrade - from an optional one. If your Windows 7 or 8 machine is set to automatically install recommended items (the default setting), it will download several gigabytes of data. www.yahoo.com/tech/your-pc-will-automatically-download-windows-10-092425005.htmlFrom what I have read a majority of people have had problems with WIN 10. I run Win 7 and perfectly satisfied with how it operates. I believe the only way you can prevent this 'forced' upgrade is to turn off your Automatic Updates in Windows. This is just my personal opinion and preference.

OMG how can they get away with that? x_x I've had Automatic Updates turned off for a few years, and stopped getting computer problems. I used to get problems and it would always seem to be after an update. and then heaven forum you have to do a system restore to an earlier date, you have to go through all the updates all over again. They update stuff I don't even use, Like IE, haven't used that for at least 15 years. I'm glad you're warning people about this though, I've seen a bunch of complaints about 10

People need to read that article and then look to the comments. Most are all negative. Microsoft updates totally ruined my old laptop, it never rebooted after a update and I had no recourse even though MS admitted the bad/corrupt update.
Even though the article states you still have the option. many of the comments say that's not true and it proceeded to update anyway. BUT (for everyone) don't take my word on it just research it out yourself. It may also be something others want to try. my big concern is the 'no choice' in the matter.

I agree, it should be your choice what gets downloaded to your computer.

my computer and browser kept freezing up all morning today, I had restarted my laptop last night, which I hardly ever do. Somehow Windows went in and turned on my Windows Defender, which I had disabled before. It was overheating the laptop, and freeing everything. I hate how they can do that stuff, I finally figured out how to stop the process boohiss Stay off my puter

I keep disabing updateui.exe process, and have my computer set to not update anything, but this thing keeps starting itself back up and slowing down my laptop There is a KB file that you are suppose to be able to delete and it will stop that process. I'm trying to locate where I read that article, I thought I had saved it, but I can't find the note. A KB file is one of those windows update files. I'll let you know if I have any luck, I have my updates OFF also, but I know it has downloaded the necessary files anyway. To me that's a crime that they allow such practices.

I keep disabing updateui.exe process, and have my computer set to not update anything, but this thing keeps starting itself back up and slowing down my laptop More info I don't have 1st hand knowledge on this software, but her is the article on where I got the info from. There is also a description of how the software works, if you scroll down to see it. Make Windows 10 Stop Downloading the Easy Way If you want a really simple and easy way to get rid of the “Get Windows 10” icon and stop your PC from downloading Windows 10, you can download a little piece of freeware called GWX Control Panel from a developer that isn’t happy with this nonsense either. Download it, run it, and then click the “Disable Get Windows 10 App (permanently remove icon)” button. And then click the “Disable Operating System Upgrades in Windows Update” button too for good measure. www.howtogeek.com/228551/how-to-stop-windows-7-or-8-from-downloading-windows-10-automatically/Here is the page where the software is GWX Control Panel This is a free tool that can remove and disable the 'Get Windows 10' notification area icon on Windows 7 and Windows 8. Recent versions can also disable 'Upgrade to Windows 10' behavior in the Windows Update control panel and do much more. See the user guide at the Ultimate Outsider blog. You can still download GWX Control Panel as a standalone executable if you don't like installers. Please see the "GWX Control Panel Release Notes and Version History" post at the blog for MD5 and SHA-1 checksums of all official releases. ultimateoutsider.com/downloads/

I've had this laptop and never had a problem with this before, I might try to do a system restore, but that's a pain too, I hate computer troubles I just tried everything on every site I could find, still didn't help

I don't have any virus software, I used to all the time, and constantly got viruses when I would cancel the subsciptions. I haven't had a virus or any problems for years since I stopped letting my computer update anything. I'm wondering if windows 10 sneaked on to my computer, it's a windows system popup, not an online thing

I read some comments from people that it just went ahead and started installing even if you said NO. It's possible that you have a botched install or maybe a possible half-ass install. Go to 'My Computer" and 'right' click on it and choose 'properties' it should tell you what version Win is running. . WTH, that is criminal that they can do that. Messing with your personal property is nothing less then a crime;
Did you ever try and rum Malwarebytes. Even the free version is pertty good. It finds a lot of booogers
