ATE is getting better and better on his drawing You're killin it ATE Thanks Mel and Ister, I have 2 pencils now, a #2 and a #4 . Trying to know when to use them the right way. I have problems with measuring layout also. Right now I just use 4 dots to start with, 2 at the widest points, and then 2 for the height. Then I light draw a intersecting line thru them, then a splitting line to cut what ever is the larger portion in half. Then I just reference everything off those lines. I tried looking at ideas of other peoples layout, but it just messed me up even more. I only got interested in this because of Mel, so thanks Mel, it's kinda fun and is relaxing to do , no matter what it ends up as.

using dots is good, you can get your perspective before staring in. That's what's great about art, it's the process that is the best part, not the finished product so much

I use only HB or 2B pencils and I don't draw layout cause it make my drawing worst so I just estimate everything while I'm drawing ( This is not the way to draw a portrait so don't learn from me ) You're welcome ATE , I agree that it's relaxing and you don't need to think much other than just draw So that's why I like drawing sometimes

using dots is good, you can get your perspective before staring in. That's what's great about art, it's the process that is the best part, not the finished product so much Yeh I looked at this method of drawing a grid of squares and then overlaying the picture on the grid. Then just draw grid x grid, almost like a jigsaw puzzle. But that really messed me up. My problem is really patience ,,, I have none I don't think I could ever draw / draw like Mel does. So I sketch, then re sketch. and re sketch, till it looks kinda ok, then I try to darken it. And like your digital art, you have such good layout sense that must take patience. You must have a method that you start with or base it all on. Anyway, like you said a lot of times, keeps ya outa trouble and passes the time

Grid doesn't work on me too so I just estimate Now I made some correction on my Sawyer sketch before I draw and seems like I've ruined a little of that sketch Gonna keep trying to sketch and if doesn't work then I'll re sketch a new one crashandburn

Grid drawing is a good method, you're doing great with getting proportions right, not that easy to do. Digital art is easier the programs can do a lot of the work. I did mostly regular art in the past, then took photoshop classes at the community college and got hooked on it and the Painter program Grid doesn't work on me too so I just estimate Now I made some correction on my Sawyer sketch before I draw and seems like I've ruined a little of that sketch Gonna keep trying to sketch and if doesn't work then I'll re sketch a new one crashandburn I hate when that happens, you work so hard on something and then it gets overworked and goes wonky x_x

Here's a Rosita sketch that I messed up on. I ruined the mouth and jaw area and I didn't want to scrap the whole thing so what I did was just raised up her shoulder pad area to cover my goof up. You can see on the pic I used for the sketch where it went wrong. The more I tried to fix it, the more it got worse, so I covered it. So maybe you can fix yours still Mel.
