I also have a young pair of peacocks. Peacocks mate for life. They can fly high and far in spite of their size. If one escaped the other would die of loneliness. They mature at about 3 years of age. My male, Azul, is only about one and a half years old. When he is mature his tail feathers will be about five feet long. If you want to know what a peacock sounds like, they are quite LOUD and sound like they are screaming: 'OH MY GAWD! OH MY GAAAAAAWD!' lol In the video below I am talking to my peacocks in their habitat. They also have a special huge LAVENDER Rooster... (that's the name of the breed, Lavender) and a white hen that they share their habitat with. I named my Lavender rooster Lavi. He is soo fat that he can barely open his eyes because his cheeks are so pudgy. lol ENJOY!
SADDEST AND HAPPIEST THING THAT EVER HAPPENED TO ME! This is the first time that I am writing about it as it has been too painful to think about til now. Most children fantasize about what they will be when they grow up. A Nurse, Fireman, School Teacher, Superstar, etc. All I ever dreamt of being when I grew up was an old lady living in the Country, swinging on the porch and surrounded by animal friends. Ten years ago I made it happen and bought an old farm and turned it into an Animal Rescue. I spent my entire savings, sacrificed much and happily poured everything that I had into my beloved creatures to make sure they felt safe and loved.
I rescued four horses and loved them all but my favorite was a handsome brown horse named Cody. He had been beaten and repeatedly abused by a mean alcoholic man before I rescued Cody. At first, Cody was too scared to let me pet him but in time we became best friends and before too long he would whinee and follow me around when I went outside. Eventually, I could ride him and he became so gentle and trusting that even children could ride him without a bridle! Now I know what it is to have a once in a blue moon horse that you can bond telepathically with. It is one of the richest most full filling experiences that I am blessed to have ever known. Over time, my health took a nose dive and I could no longer care for the animals myself. I got other people to be my farm helpers but now it is even too strenuous for me to show my helpers what to do. With a breaking heart, I realized that I would have to surrender my dream and rehome my beloved creatures, sell my farm and start an easier life in town in a smaller place. With a broken spirit I began to sell my animals, Cody went fast! A VERY GOOD LADY CAME TO SEE HIM AND BEING A TRUE HORSE WOMAN, she saw what a beautiful gentle soul Cody is and decided to make him her number one personal riding horse. hipgrl12 I am crying at this writing because I miss my Cody and it hurts that I let him go. But do you believe in miracles? Do you believe in Angels?? twirly2 This loving lady that adopted Cody has given him even a better home than I could ever afford to and is able to spend a lot more time with Cody than I ever could!! Yes!! Now Cody has a huge shady irrigated pasture to graze in, in an apple orchard! Plus she has installed a fan in Codys' stall to keep him cool in this Arizona sun! He even has a tether ball to play with that hangs from the rafters of his stall!!! PLUS her son, who she is very close to, is going to school to be a Veterinarian! Then she bought some of my goats to keep Cody company, too!! And her loving mother took five of my new hatchling chicks and her son adopted my two sister kittens AND my beloved farm dog, Princess! Yes, the veterinarian son!!! And he adopted one of my Roosters, too! I love and miss my animal friends but am HEAVILY BLESSED with KNOWING that they have new fantastic FOREVER homes!! Oh yes and then just today some wonderful family came and adopted my Peafowl! I am still re-homing my dear pets and will be listing my farm but I just want to say THANK YOU God for taking SUCH WONDERFULcare of my animals now that I am no longer able to! It is in your hands now.
awww, that's so wonderful that they have been adopted to good homes, so sorry it's getting hard for you. Maybe life will be a little easier for you with not so much to take care of, I don't know how you did it.
