JEN will like this story:Lakomi is an upper-mid content wolfdog who lives in a sanctuary. She was found surviving in the wild at 8 months old, however it quickly became apparent that she had been bred and partially raised in captivity. At the time of her rescue she was wearing a harness intended for an 8 week old. Her skin had grown over the harness and removing it took hours of surgery and months of medication to fight an infection that nearly took her life. When I first got to the sanctuary I was told that she was crazy and wouldn't ever be socialized. Her enclosure has fences that are 14 feet high because she would routinely jump or climb up 12 foot fencing and hang by her jaw at the top. Since I began working on socialization with her that behavior has stopped. She took about two months of daily exposure before she would allow physical contact, but once that wall came down she quickly became playful, sweet, loving, and my personal favorite animal in our charge. Lakomi is a gorgeous example of the redemptive power of love, and being able to know her is one of the greatest privileges of my life. A side note: the fur on her belly is thin because she had been spayed several months prior to this video. She is entirely healthy

Awwww. ATE that is so amazing that she came around so quickly!! And my jaw hit the floor when I read about the harness digging into her skin so bad it had to be surgically removed!! When did you post this? Lemme see.... 8 hrs ago. Well last night in my dream (and I only remember because I woke at 3am and wrote it down it was so vivid) I was in this strange house and suddenly remembered I had left Quin waiting for me in the yard. I went out to find her and someone (I think it was Kent!) had a leash wrapped around her face 2 times and was holding the other end, pulling on it. He kept saying "she wouldn't come, she wouldn't come." I took the leash and tried to unwrap it from around her face but it had gone deep into the skin under her eyes and as I peeled it off, pieces of skin and flesh were attached to the leash!! JUST LIKE LAKOMI'S HARNESS!!! Isn't that strange???
Anyways, the other thing that struck me that I got away from is that it took a long, long time for Quin to come around when I got her. She was all skin and bones and traumatized from living in an abusive home and being abandoned by the woman who had gotten her when she was only 4 weeks old!! The woman had to bottle feed her cuz they took her away from her pack too early!! That's what they do with wolfdogs, so they will bond with the person better. Isn't that SiCK? That's why my friend who rescued her "Lake Tahoe Wolf Rescue" works so hard to shut down wolfdog breeders. It's horrible because they don't know if they're wolfs or dogs, ya know?
Well, I've gone on a ramble! LOL!! Thank you for this! I love to see/hear happy endings to Quin's brother's and sister's lives!!
