I guess I could try that, thanks, I am so skeptical of all those let us scan your computer site things. Malwarebytes does not contain any other hidden software, been using it for years and I finally got the pro version because I'm so happy with it. But the free version works great also, www.malwarebytes.org/

I really did not want it to scan my extra drive, just my C drive

After you scan is all done and stuff, and that's over with...did you ever check your 'On Startup" list.
because I recall that microsoft had a program that ran on startup, to go back and get the files that I just told them not to get. I don't remember the name of it exactly, but once I unchecked that from the start up list. it didn't do it anymore.
On WIN7 (you may be diff) but if go to my Start Button click that and in the searchbox type this
msconfig
then run that....on the box that appears you will see a tab called START UP, and under that tab you will see a list of all things that start when you fire up your computer. if you uncheck something and then OK it, it DOES require you to reboot.
I wouldn't uncheck anything your not sure of, but I recall it was obviously named and Microsoft Upgrade> update (whatever)
I run bare bones I have only 6 things that start when my PC starts

I stopped that scan, it was taking forever going through my backup drive and selecting my art program stuff. I started over running it on just the C Drive, it's not very big

I totally gave up on that, it took over an hour and hadn't even finished scanning just one of my Adobe programs, I have a bout 15 of them so forget it, I don't wanna wait for 10 hours to find out if I have a virus so far it hadn't found anything that was harmful, so that's good

I don't blame ya, i get impatient with those also. I started mine from day 1 on this PC, so by now I have it scan only the 'new' stuff added since the last scan, no use re scanning all those files it already scanned. But if you do it from a later date and have so many files like you must have, it can be painful to wait for.
I'm sure it's that Microsoft BS, I have been trouble free since I quit using their dumb ass virus ridden browser, that alone was the source of so many problems
that whole virus . anti virus thing has become such a big scam anyway, the people who create the virus and malware are the ones that make the removal software. and they infect ya just so they can then sell ya the removal. it's such a big business that it escapes from being prosecuted, like any small normal business would be.

I know, it's crazy how much money they make off of scare tactics, like subscribe or else. I finally wised up about 10 years ago
