But for now, the undead appear to sticking mostly to the town of Irricana, where filming has taken place the last couple of days. The other locations have not been revealed, but Tom Benz, Motion Picture Business Agent for film workers union IATSE 212, said they will be in and around Calgary. Production began in mid-July. Sixty to 70 people have been hired for the crew, most of whom are local, Benz said. “A lot of people are getting a big break for Black Summer,” he said. “We are just over the moon with the opportunities that Black Summer is putting forward.” The eight-episode series stars Jaime King, known for the CW TV series Hart of Dixie and films such as Sin City and My Bloody Valentine 3-D. Netflix has provided the following synopsis: “A mother, torn from her daughter embarks upon a harrowing journey, stopping at nothing to find her. Thrust alongside a small group of American refugees, she must brave a hostile new world and make brutal decisions during the most deadly summer of a zombie apocalypse.”
