Fan commentary fly on the wall. St. Augustine. Health issues brought me to Florida this time of year. I've never been to St. Augustine though. Happy to sidetrack for an evening of Sawyer music just steps from our hotel. The area is beachy but quite upscale residential and quiet . Dotted with courtyard hotels, the venue is a drive up pit stop peculiar for the surroundings. Neighborhood comfort food seems to be the attraction. Quickly converts to a casual music club by night. Parking lot dubbed as a green room, very relaxed including the outdoor merch stand. Sawyer required no tuning up. He was full throttle within easy reach of the the golden ring. The crowd seemed relaxed listening to the opener and thoroughly entertained. Most!y retirees with a small younger mix. As soon as Sawyer started, everyone became rigid and riveted. Clearly they were waiting for it. My husband likes to hold Sawyer up to very high standards. He too was jaw dropped mesmerized especially during "Lies You Tell" when I tapped him and said, "Get ready, this one's for you". Very intense. The breaks came during the surprise trio and the more upbeat songs with the band in the second half. Being there live for the drum solo provided a much needed pause from the gripping hold Sawyer has on his audience and there's nothing playful about Chris's technical level of skill either. Band name tonight was "the next level"? Sounds about right. All of them looking and sounding great ,tightly mirroring the man.
