Sawyers' Sleep Paralysis song, Angel's Skin has me all revved up. The topic was rather obscure until Sawyer wrote a song about it. Personally I am beyond thrilled because AWARENESS about Sleep Paralysis is eminent now. I can assure you that this has piqued the interest of those that have experienced Sleep Paralysis or have other sleep disorders as I myself am one. To Sawyer and anyone else out there reading this, Learning about a subject can often help overcome the fear associated with it. For example, the 1st time I became pregnant I was petrified and sure that I was going to die, so I studied everything I could about childbirth, took La Maze, became familiar with how things worked and what was happening and I not only had a smooth natural healthy childbirth, but I had three and went on to coach the birth of my grandchildren as well.
There are tools that may help one through their SLEEP PARALYSIS episodes.
1) First you must realize that Sleep Paralysis occurs when one is transitioning between being awake and being asleep.
THIS IS GREAT NEWS because it means that to some degree you are awake. Being awake is helpful in gaining control over it.
This includes both affected areas, the PHYSICAL Paralysis as well as the MENTAL Hallucinations and / or creepy feeling that you are not alone.
Physically, there are tools. First find out what your limitations are.
Can you move your eyelids and / or eyes? Can you open your eyes and see? Can you look around? Are you able to close your eyes at will?
If you answered YES to any of the above questions you are in luck! Practicing control over your eyes can lead to gaining control of other parts of your body.. like moving your pinky finger and eventually pulling yourself out of the paralysis.
Can you control your breathing at all? If so then that could lead to controlling the rest of your body and eventually pulling yourself out of the paralysis. If you can not control your breathing, such as slowing it down or taking a relaxing cleansing breath, then ( male or female doesn't matter ) may I suggest you take a La Maze course? Don't laugh. La Maze is akin to yoga and has proven extremely useful to me through out the years when I get an injury such as a bad burn from cooking, etc. If you can control your breathing enough to calm down during a scary hallucination then it may lead to pulling yourself out of the paralysis.
2) SECOND about the Mental Hallucinations and or visceral sensation that you are not alone.. here are some keys that may unlock your mind and free you during your next event.
Freedom might occur once you realize that it is merely your subconscious mind that is entertaining itself and that you have TOTAL control over your Subconscious mind if you simply REALIZE THAT YOU CAN.
Here's how it works. Your subconscious mind never sleeps so it is very clever as it is always awake even when you are not conscious. Your subconscious is that brilliant, beautiful spot where your muses hang out and your creativity evolves. It's the part of the brain that is in charge when we draw or sing or do what ever it is that we are talented at. It believes it is in control but the truth is, it would not exist with out YOU so it is not in control, YOU are. Our subconscious is only an extension of us.
Here is an example. Let's say that you have a recurring nightmare that a phantom man is chasing you and plans to kill you. Once you realize that YOU are creating that dream and you can create ANY SCENARIO to go with that dream, then you will cure yourself of that nightmare. Figure out the resolution you want to that nightmare and exercize it. For example, the next time you have that dream, you can make yourself invisable, or fly away or stab the phantom until it is a bloody pulp that can never rise up again to chase you or wave a wand and turn the perp into a butterfly, etc. It is your imagination that created him, use your imagination to make him vanish.
NOW TAKE IT A STEP DEEPER and realize that the phantom man is YOU. Yes. After all, who else could it be? You created it, it is an extension of you.
Like wise, any person or creature that is hiding nearby is just you watching to see what is happening.
The hallucinations are your VERY own creation, try shape them into something pleasant.
I wish everyone the best. I still have some episodes myself but they are very rare now and I have learned to take control of my dreams in most cases.
Happy dreams!!
